In rural Tamil Nadu, differently-abled children and adults are too often invisible — excluded from schools, isolated at home, denied mobility aids they need. Sengodu Foundation's Disability Support program breaks these barriers with therapy, aids, education, and inclusion.
India has over 26 million persons with disabilities — and rural areas bear a disproportionate share of this population, with far fewer support services. In Kallakurichi and surrounding Tamil Nadu districts, thousands of children with physical disabilities, intellectual challenges, hearing impairments, or visual loss are missing school, missing therapy, missing the assistive technology they need, and missing the chance to live the lives they deserve.
A child with cerebral palsy who cannot access physiotherapy will lose function over time that could have been preserved. A youth with hearing impairment who has never had a hearing aid has never heard their own name. An adult with mobility impairment who cannot access a wheelchair is confined to a single room for their entire life. These are not inevitable outcomes — they are failures of access and support that Sengodu Foundation is determined to address.
Our Disability Support & Special Needs Program provides free mobility aids, therapy camps, inclusive education support, government disability certification assistance, family caregiver training, and vocational skills for differently-abled youth — because inclusion is not a charity, it is a right.
Every number is a person whose life, mobility, or education improved because of your support.
From the first mobility aid to a vocational skill — complete support for differently-abled individuals and their families.
Free distribution of wheelchairs, crutches, callipers, tricycles, hearing aids, white canes, and other assistive devices to differently-abled individuals in rural villages who cannot access or afford them independently.
Mobile therapy camps bringing physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and special educators directly to villages — providing specialist care that rural families would otherwise have to travel hours and spend thousands to access.
Helping children with special needs access and remain in mainstream and special schools — with advocacy, teacher sensitisation, learning material adaptation, and academic support to ensure no child is excluded from education because of a disability.
Government disability certificates unlock a wide range of entitlements — reservations, pensions, travel concessions, assistive device subsidies. We guide families through the certification process and link them to every applicable scheme.
The family members of differently-abled individuals are the unrecognised frontline caregivers. We train them in home-based therapy techniques, assistive device use, communication support, and self-care to prevent caregiver burnout.
Differently-abled youth have the same right to economic independence as anyone else. We provide adapted vocational training in skills suited to individual abilities — creating pathways to dignified self-employment and income generation.
Village-level disability surveys and home visits identify differently-abled individuals, assess their specific needs, and prioritise support based on severity and family situation.
Immediate provision of mobility aids, assistive devices, and therapy — addressing the most urgent functional barriers that prevent participation in education, work, and community life.
Disability certification, government scheme enrollment, and entitlement linkage ensuring individuals access every benefit they are legally entitled to — pensions, reservations, and assistive device subsidies.
Education inclusion, vocational training, and family capacity building — creating pathways to full social participation, economic independence, and a life of dignity and choice.
My son has cerebral palsy and had never received physiotherapy. I couldn't afford it. After the foundation's therapy camp, he started sitting unsupported for the first time at age 7. That moment — I will never forget it as long as I live. That is what your donation does.
I have been hearing-impaired since birth but never had a hearing aid. I thought I would never study like other children. The foundation gave me a hearing aid and helped me get into a government school. I passed class 10 this year. I want to be a teacher for children like me.
My mother could not leave our house for 8 years because she had no wheelchair. She sat in one room as her world got smaller and smaller. After Sengodu Foundation's wheelchair distribution camp, she goes to the temple every Friday, visits neighbours, and attends the SHG meeting. The wheelchair gave her life back.
